September News from Asian Food and Cookery
Hi everyoneI read an interesting article recently which said that more and more Indians are now able to travel abroad because of the boom in the Indian economy. However, they still prefer to eat Indian food when abroad and consequently many tour operators take their own chefs along.
This puzzled me somewhat, as most countries in Western Europe, the Middle and Far East as well as the USA, Canada and Australia already have plenty of Indian restaurants so I wondered where Indian tourists go where there aren't any Indian restaurants. If anyone knows the answer to this, please post an article on the site or mail me back.
As ever, happy cooking.
Sincerely
Liz Canham

Hi Liz,
The reason tour operators take along a chef relate to the wide variety of Indian cuisine and also the lack of trust in somebody else's cooking.
To explain a Gujarati group on a tour would have cuisine requirements which no normal Indian restaurant could fulfill. there is no blanket Indian cuisine eaten regularly by all and sundry. The lack of trust is more with the groups which are strict vegetarians or have restrictions on eating root vegetables(Jains)or grains etc. Most Indian restaurants abroad have a mish mash of Indian cuisine more North Indian and Mughlai.
Hope this helps
Kay
